III Pardinyes Christmas Chess Tournament

The Pardinyes Civic Center became, last Sunday, January 4, 2026, the epicenter of grassroots chess in Lleida with the celebration of the third edition of its already traditional Christmas Children's Tournament. The event, organized by the Pardinyes Chess Club and the Catalan Chess Federation, brought together a total of 45 children from all over Catalonia under the motto 'All children play !!'. The great protagonist of the day was Genís Satorra Espert, representing the Santpedor Chess Club, who signed a perfect performance achieving 7 points out of 7 possible. Satorra, who started as one of the favorites being the fifth in the initial ranking with 1,556 Elo points, showed a solidity at the board that gave no option to his rivals, allowing him to take the champion trophy to the Bages region.

The fight for the honor places was fierce until the last round. The second position went to Francesc Morancho, from the Santa Anna school, who demonstrated a high competitive level, while the third position was occupied by Eloi Canales Gómez, from the host club (CE Pardinyes), who completed the podium ratifying the good health of the local quarry.

One of the most relevant data of this edition was the large influx of non-federated boys and girls, with a total of 24 participants, a fact that underlines the task of promoting the sport carried out by the Lleida club. The event was divided into several categories according to age, from under-8 to under-16, allowing younger players to enjoy the experience in a formative and festive environment, all taking a trophy home as a souvenir. With this third edition, the Pardinyes Chess Club consolidates its tournament as an unavoidable appointment of the winter calendar of the city of Lleida, uniting competition, learning and brotherhood.
